st Dabar-Hayamym (1 Chronicles) — 23
The Divisions of the Lauym
So when Daud was old and full of days, he made his son Shalumah king over Yashar'AL.
And he gathered together all the leaders of Yashar'AL, with the Kuhanym and the Lauym.
Now the Lauym were numbered from the age of thirty years and above; and the number of individual males was thirty-eight thousand.
Of these, twenty-four thousand were to look after the work of the house of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH, six thousand were officers and judges,
four thousand were gatekeepers, and four thousand Yadah 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH with musical instruments, “which I made,” said Daud, “for giving Yadah.”
Also Daud separated them into divisions among the sons of Lauy: Garshun, Kuhath, and Marari.
Of the Gershunites: Laadan and Shimai.
The sons of Laadan: the first Yahial, then Zatham and Yual, three in all.
The sons of Shimai: Shalumith, Hazial, and Haran, three in all. These were the heads of the fathers’ houses of Laadan.
And the sons of Shimai: Yahath, Zina, Yaush, and Baryahu. These were the four sons of Shimai.
Yahath was the first and Zizah the second. But Yaush and Baryahu did not have many sons; therefore they were assigned as one father’s house.
The sons of Kuhath: Amram, Izhar, Habrun, and Uzzial, four in all.
The sons of Amram: Aarun and Musha; and Aarun was set apart, he and his sons forever, that he should sanctify the most Qadash things, to burn incense before 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH, to minister to Him, and to give the Barakah in the Name of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH forever.
Now the sons of Musha the servant of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH were reckoned to the tribe of Lauy.
The sons of Musha were Garshun and Aliazar.
Of the sons of Garshun, Shabual was the first.
Of the descendants of Aliazar, Rahabyahu was the first. And Aliazer had no other sons, but the sons of Rahabyahu were very many.
Of the sons of Izhar, Shalumith was the first.
Of the sons of Habrun, Yaryahu was the first, Amaryahu the second, Yahazial the third, and Yakamaam the fourth.
Of the sons of Uzzial, Michah was the first and Yasshyahu the second.
The sons of Marari were Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli were Alaazar and Kish.
And Alaazar died, and had no sons, but only daughters; and their brethren, the sons of Kish, took them as wives.
The sons of Mushi were Mahli, Adar, and Yaramuth, three in all.
These were the sons of Lauy by their father's houses, the heads of the father's houses as they were counted individually by the number of their names, who did the work for the service of the house of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH, from the age of twenty years and above.
For king Daud said, 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH the 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH of Yashar'AL has given rest to His people, that they may dwell in Yahushalam forever”;
and also to the Lauym, “They shall no longer carry the tabernacle, or any of the articles for its service.”
For by the last words of King Daud the Lauym were numbered from twenty years old and above;
because their duty was to help the sons of Aarun in the service of the house of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH, in the courts and in the chambers, in the purifying of all Qadash things and the work of the service of the house of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH,
both with the showbread and the fine flour for the grain offering, with the unleavened cakes and what is baked in the pan, with what is mixed and with all kinds of measures and sizes;
to stand every morning to Tudah and Yadah 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH, and likewise at evening;
and at every presentation of a burnt offering to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH on the Shabbats and on the New Moons and on the set feasts, by number according to the ordinance governing them, regularly before 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH;
and that they should attend to the needs of the tabernacle of meeting, the needs of the Qadash place, and the needs of the sons of Aarun their brethren in the work of the house of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH.
