Barashyt(Genesis) — 46

1 So Ya'aqub set out for Mitzraym with all his possessions. And when he came to Baarshaba, he offered sacrifices to the 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH of his father, Yachaq. 

2 During the night 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH Dabar to Ya'aqub in a vision. Ya'aqub! Ya'aqub!” 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH called. “Here I am,” Ya'aqub replied.

3 “I AM 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH, the 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH of your father,” the voice said. “Do not be afraid to go down to Mitzraym, for there I will make your family into a great nation. 

4 I will go with you down to Mitzraym, and I will bring you back again. You will die in Mitzraym, but Ya'asaf will be with you to close your eyes.”

5 So Ya'aqub left Baarshaba, and his sons took him to Mitzraym. They carried him and their little ones and their wives in the wagons Phar'uh had provided for them. 

6 They also took all their livestock and all the personal belongings they had acquired in the land of Canaan. So Ya'aqub and his entire family went to Mitzraym,

7 sons and grandsons, daughters and granddaughters—all his descendants.

8 These are the names of the descendants of YASHAR'AL—the sons of Ya'aqub—who went to Mitzraym: Rauban was Ya'aqub’s oldest son. 

9 The sons of Rauban were Hanuch, Pallu, Hazrun, and Carmi.

10 The sons of Simaun were Yamual, Yamin, Uhad, Yakin, Zuhar, and Shaul. (Shaul’s mother was a Canaanite woman.)

11 The sons of Lauy were Garshun, Kuhath, and Marari.

12 The sons of Yahudah were Ar, Unan, Shalah, Paraz, and Zarah (though Ar and Unan had died in the land of Canaan). The sons of Paraz were Hazrun and Hamul.

13 The sons of Issachar were Tula, Puah, Yashub, and Shimrun.

14 The sons of Zabulun were Sarad, Alun, and Yahlaal.

15 These were the sons of La'ah and Ya'aqub who were born in Paddan-aram, in addition to their daughter, Dinah. The number of Ya'aqub’s descendants (male and female) through La'ah was thirty-three.

16 The sons of Gad were Zaphun, Haggi, Shuni, Azbun, Ari, Arudi, and Arali.

17 The sons of Ashar were Imnah, Ishbah, Ishbi, and Baryah. Their sister was Sarah. Baryah’s sons were Habar and Malkial.

18 These were the sons of Zilpah, the servant given to La'ah by her father, Laban. The number of Ya'aqub’s descendants through Zilpah was sixteen.

19 The sons of Ya'aqub’s wife Rachal were Ya'asaf and Banyamyn.

20 Ya'asaf’s sons, born in the land of Mitzraym, were Manassah and Aphraim. Their mother was Asanath, daughter of Putiphara, the priest of Un.

21 Banyamyn’s sons were Bala, Bakar, Ashbal, Gara, Naaman, Ahi, Rush, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard.

22 These were the sons of Rachal and Ya'aqub. The number of Ya'aqub’s descendants through Rachal was fourteen.

23 The son of Dan was Hushim.

24 The sons of Naphtali were Yahzaal, Guni, Yazar, and Shillam.

25 These were the sons of Bilhah, the servant given to Rachal by her father, Laban. The number of Ya'aqub’s descendants through Bilhah was seven.

26 The total number of Ya'aqub’s direct descendants who went with him to Mitzraym, not counting his sons’ wives, was sixty-six. 

27 In addition, Ya'asaf had two sons who were born in Mitzraym. So altogether, there were seventy members of Ya'aqub’s family in the land of Mitzraym.

Ya'aqub’s Family Arrives in Gushan 

28 As they neared their destination, Ya'aqub sent Yahudah ahead to meet Ya'asaf and get directions to the region of Gushan. And when they finally arrived there, 

29 Ya'asaf prepared his chariot and traveled to Gushan to meet his father Ya'aqub, when Ya'asaf arrived, he embraced his father and wept, holding him for a long time. 

30 Finally, Ya'aqub said to Ya'asaf, “Now I am ready to die, since I have seen your face again and know you are still alive.”

31 And Ya'asaf said to his brothers and to his father’s entire family, “I will go to Phar'uh and tell him, ‘My brothers and my father’s entire family have come to me from the land of Canaan. 

32 These men are shepherds, and they raise livestock. They have brought with them their flocks and herds and everything they own.’”

33 Then he said, “When Phar'uh calls for you and asks you about your occupation, 

34 you must tell him, ‘We, your servants, have raised livestock all our lives, as our ancestors have always done.’ When you tell him this, he will let you live here in the region of Gushan, for the Mitzraym despise shepherds.”
