 All the temple servants and the sons of Shalumah’s servants were three hundred and seventy-two.

 The following are those who came up from Talmalah and Telharsha, under the leadership of Charub, Addan, and Immar,

 though they could not prove by their fathers’ houses or lineage that they belonged to Yashar'AL: the sons of Dalayahu the son of Tubiyahu, the sons of Nakuda, six hundred and fifty-two.

 Of the Kuhanym the following had assumed the Kuhanhood but were not found registered: the sons of Habayahu, the sons of Hakkuz, the sons of Yaddus who had married Agia, one of the daughters of Barzillai, and was called by his name.

 And when the genealogy of these men was sought in the register and was not found, they were excluded from serving as Kuhanym.

 And Nahamyahu and Attharias told them not to share in the qadash things until a high Kuhan should appear wearing Urim and Thummim.

 All those of Yashar'AL, twelve or more years of age, besides menservants and maidservants, were forty-two thousand three hundred and sixty;

 Some of the heads of families, when they came to the temple of  𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH which is in Yahushalam, vowed that they would erect the house on its site, to the best of their ability,

 and that they would give to the sacred treasury for the work a thousand minas of gold, five thousand minas of silver, and one hundred Kuhanym’ garments.

 The Kuhanym, the Lauym, and some of the people settled in Yahushalam and its vicinity; and the temple singers, the gatekeepers, and all Yashar'AL in their towns.

Worship Begins Again

 When the seventh month came, and the sons of Yashar'AL were each in his own home, they gathered as one man in the square before the first gate toward the east.

 Then Yashua the son of Yuzadak, with his fellow Kuhanym, and Zarubbabal the son of Shaaltial, with his kinsmen, took their places and prepared the altar of the 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH of Yashar'AL,

 to offer burnt offerings upon it, in accordance with the directions in the Turah.

 And some joined them from the other peoples of the land. And they erected the altar in its place, for all the people of the land were hostile to them and were stronger than they; and they offered sacrifices at the proper times and burnt offerings to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH morning and evening.

 They kept the feast of booths, as it is commanded in the law, and offered the proper sacrifices every day,

 and thereafter the continual offerings and sacrifices on shabbats and at new moons and at all the consecrated feasts.

 And all who had made any vow to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH began to offer sacrifices to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH, from the new moon of the seventh month, though the temple of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH was not yet built.

 And they gave money to the masons and the carpenters, and food and drink

 and carts to the Sidunians and the Tyrians, to bring cedar logs from Labanun and convey them in rafts to the harbor of Juppa, according to the decree which they had in writing from Cyrus king of the Persians.

The Foundations of the Temple Laid

 In the second year after their coming to the temple of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH in Yahushalam, in the second month, Zarubbabal the son of Shaaltial and Yashua the son of Yuzadak made a beginning, together with their brethren and the Lauym Kuhanym and all who had come to Yahushalam from the captivity;

 and they laid the foundation of the temple of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH on the new moon of the second month in the second year after they came to Yahudah and Yahushalam.

 And they appointed the Lauym who were twenty or more years of age to have charge of the work of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH. And Yahushua arose, and his sons and brethren and Kadmial his brother and the sons of Yashua Amadabun and the sons of Yuda son of Iliadun, with their sons and brethren, all the Lauym, as one man pressing forward the work on the house of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH. So the builders built the temple of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH

 And the Kuhanym stood arrayed in their garments, with musical instruments and trumpets, and the Lauym, the sons of Asaph, with cymbals,

 They Yadah 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH and Baraked 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH, according to the directions of Daud king of Yashar'AL;

 and they sang hymns, giving Tudah to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH, because the goodness and Kabad of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH are for ever upon all Yashar'AL.

 And all the people sounded trumpets and shouted with a great shout, Yadah 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH for the erection of the house of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH

 Some of the Lauym, Kuhanym and heads of fathers’ houses, old men who had seen the former house, came to the building of this one with outcries and loud weeping,

 while many came with trumpets and a joyful noise,

 so that the people could not hear the trumpets because of the weeping of the people. For the multitude sounded the trumpets loudly, so that the sound was heard afar;

 and when the enemies of the tribe of Yahudah and Banyamin heard it, they came to find out what the sound of the trumpets meant.

 And they learned that those who had returned from captivity were building the temple for 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH  the 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH of Yashar'AL.

 So they approached Zarubbabal and Yashua and the heads of the father's houses and said to them, “We will build with you.

 For we obey your 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH just as you do and we have been sacrificing to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH ever since the days of Asarhaddun king of the Assyrians, who brought us here.”

 But Zarubbabal and Yashua and the heads of the father's houses in Yashar'AL said to them, “You have nothing to do with us in building the house for  𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH our 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH

 for we alone will build it for the 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH of Yashar'AL, as Cyrus the king of the Parsians has commanded us.”

 But the people of the land pressed hard upon those in Yahudah, cut off their supplies, and hindered their building;

 and by plots and demagoguery and uprisings they prevented the completion of the building as long as King Cyrus lived. And they were kept from building for two years, until the reign of Darius.
